Singing in the Shower
6th December 2018
Go on, admit it. You’ve used the shower as a stage for your 20-minute concert, featuring you. We’re not judging or anything as we’re rather partial to a shower karaoke session ourselves. Our point is that nearly everyone, yes even that miserable guy at the back of the bus, has probably belted their lungs out in the shower at some point in their lives. So, what is it about the shower that makes it such a good place to sing in?
Isn't it strange how most of us would never dream of singing in public, however when alone in the bathroom we unleash our inner pop star? The reason for this is that we feel relaxed and safe when we’re in the comfort of our own bathroom. Singing helps to strengthen this relaxation as it has mood-boosting and mind clearing benefits. After all, when your singing you can't think about anything else that may be troubling you.
Now that’s part of the reason why we sing in the shower, but the full truth is not to do with confidence it's more to do with how good we sound. We’re not trying to brag about our singing voice here but it's no secret that a bathroom can make us sound way better than we are. This is down to be amazing acoustics that a bathroom has. Most of us have bathrooms are predominantly covered in tiles. Tiles don't absorb sound like many other materials do, so they allow your voice bounce around the room until it eventually fades out.
Bathrooms are usually also quite small, so the sound bouncing around adds up giving your voice more power and volume. This bouncing sound can also make your voice sound blurry which means if you didn't quite hit the note this sound is almost Corrected. This makes your notes more accurate sounding than they would outside of the shower.
So, make the most of your time in the shower as it’s the best time to belt out those songs and give Adele a run for her money. If your family or roommates start complaining about your new hobby, show them this article and they may understand why they should be singing in the shower too!
