Top 10! Christmas Drinks

24th December 2018

There is no nicer feeling than coming in from the cold, with icicles hanging off your nose, to a steaming hot drink that warms you up from the inside, out! Coffee shops are great and all that, but there’s something special about making your drinks from the comfort of your own home. That way you can hug your mug on the sofa with a Christmassy film or take it up to drink in the bath… bliss!

We’ve had plenty of experience with homemade drinks and have been through the good, the bad and the ugly! We still sometimes get flashbacks to the watery brown mess that was supposed to be a hot chocolate?! The pain was very much real. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? All this experience has let us collect a refined list of the best hot drinks to make at home.

60% of the drinks on our list just so happen to be from Whittard, which is our go-to place for hot drinks. We’re very lucky to have the opportunity to offer you, our lovely readers, a chance to win a special Christmas hamper from Whittard! This delicious treat contains:

  • Mini Marshmallows

  • Christmas Hot Chocolate

  • White Chocolate Spoon with Marshmallows

  • 2x Soho Glasses

For the full details on how to enter the competition, head to our social media sites (linked). If you’d like to check out all the products that Whittard sell, head to their site here.

1! Cranberry & Raspberry Loose Tea

This tea uses pieces of real fruit with black tea leaves for a rich tea with a fruity finish. The cranberries give it a festive taste, but you can also drink it in the summer as an iced tea which is just as delicious! This is absolutely perfect tea to dunk a Cranberry and White Chocolate Biscuit in…

2! Orange Gingerbread Loose Tea

We cannot get enough of this tea… we’ve been tempted to stick some reeds in it and use it as a diffuser too, it smells unbelievable! This tea seems to have every festive flavour packed into it, from apple to cinnamon to pumpkin to ginger to orange. I challenge you to find a more wintery tea!

3! Mulled Wine Loose Tea

Don’t worry, this hasn’t actually got wine in it, so no-one can judge you if it’s your brew of choice in the morning! This tea just recreates the flavours of mulled wine (and very well too!) using blackberry, apple, cloves and festive spices. We recommend having this with a slice of dried orange floating on the top.

1! Salted Caramel Ground Coffee

Salted caramel is undoubtedly the flavour of the year. The mix of sweet and a pinch of salt is an incredible invention, it would be rude not to put it into a rich coffee! The salted caramel flavour lifts the coffee, with a deliciously sweet after taste. This is a great alternative to dessert if you accidentally (on-purpose) ate too much dinner and can’t fit a dessert in your stomach!

2! Festive Coffee

Oh, sweet Christmas! We definitely recommend stocking up on this limited-edition coffee before the season ends. This is like no other coffee you’ve tried… a deliciously dark taste with hints of spices and chocolate! We love using these beans to make a latte with crumbled gingerbread on top… Starbucks who?

Hot Chocolate

1! Luxury Hot Chocolate

If you like to keep it simple, this hot chocolate is the one you want. It’s perfectly chocolatey and smooth, if anything it goes down a little too easily! If you want even more luxury, add whipped cream and marshmallows for a real treat.

2! Christmas Hot Chocolate

Just when you though Hot Chocolate couldn’t get any more Christmassy, it did! This uses the luxury hot chocolate as a base, but with the addition of allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. With a taste of spiced plum to it, you’ll really get you into the Christmas mood. Remember this comes with our Hamper giveaway, so don’t forget to enter!

3! Mint Hot Chocolate

If you love After Eight chocolates and candy canes, you’ll adore this! A delicious hot chocolate with a delicate minty flavour. Our favourite way to drink this hot chocolate is with a candy cane stirrer for an extra hit of mint!

4! Praline White Hot Chocolate

Where are our fellow sweet-toothed friends at? This sweet treat is indulgent, nutty, buttery and simply delicious. We can guarantee that this will be unlike any other hot chocolate you’ve ever tasted and will keep you coming back for more! *We cannot be held responsible for any sugar-related highs*

5! Rocky Road Hot Chocolate

All our favourite flavours combined into one drink; chocolate, cherry, biscuit, raisins, marshmallow and toffee! This is a Christmas party in your mouth and everyone is invited. If you can handle the sweetness, this is delicious with a Cherry Chocolate Brownie!

We hope you’ve found at least one hot drink that tickles your fancy for a cosy day in! If you want to check out the full range at Whittard (trust us, there’s plenty more!), head to their website here.
